Antiperspirants vs. Deodorant HELP! December 19, 2008

It’s a stinky business. And Im talking about what they put in our anti perspirants & deodorants, not so much what happens when you don’t use them! I came across the following article while doing research and felt this explains it well.

In addition to the aluminum compounds you will also find propylene glycol, dimethicone, triclosan and fragrance (high amounts in deodorants) along with a host of other unwanted ingredients. So the question is “what do I use”?

Of course we all appreciate a co-worker or mate with good personal hygiene habits along with our own habits, but it’s really a struggle to find a healthy alternative that really works. Most natural alternatives let you sweat, which your body needs to do, but the feeling of sweat dripping down your torso is not something that appeals to you I’m sure. Me neither.

I have probably spent close to $100 searching for something that works and I think Ive finally found one. For the last few week I’ve been using the THAI brand crystal deodorant stone (found at natural food stores & co-ops) and I will have to say the prognosis has been really good! Now I dont know how this will work for me in the summertime, but  so far so good! (And Ive had some moments where it was well tested!)

There are no harmful chemicals, oils, fragrances or emulsifiers in it. Just pure crystallized natural mineral salts which kill odor causing bacteria and won’t stain your clothes. Good job.

There are other good brands out there and you may find something else that works better, just check the ingredients carefully. We need to be  cautious about this issue. Your lymph nodes are right there where you’re applying questionable chemicals and you can be harming your body. Let me know if you find something that works for you, I’ll post it on my blog and we can all help each other out!

Stay warm….and dry!
