Show this to you daughters! April 6, 2010

Years ago I had a desire to become a famous photographer. At the time computers were just getting popular, MTV was the new fresh thing and digital photography was in it’s infancy. As “film’ students we would have heated discussions about the differences between the new concept of digital and how it would affect our industry, and the future of film. Photoshop was such a new concept that it wasn’t even offered as a class at the college I attended, and we often wondered how “truthful” a picture would be in the future.

Well, now I know….Check this out, especially the last part.

Go get your daughters and watch it, especially the end.

Oatmeal Skin Smoother December 28, 2009

OATMEAL SMOOTHER

With the changing temperatures this time of year it is especially important to not only exfoliate the areas of the face and neck but to rehydrate it as well. This simple recipe address both issues and is a healthier alternative to the harsh alpha-hydroxys you find in most skin care products today. Oatmeal…it’s not just for breakfast anymore.

  • 1/2 cup ground oatmeal (grind in food processor)
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil (beneficial, but not necessary)
  • Purified water

In a small bowl, thoroughly mix dry ingredients together or shake them in a small bag. Combine 2 teaspoons of scrub along with 1-2 teaspoons of water (and lavender if using) in a small bowl until a spreadable paste forms. Adjust water if necessary. Allow mixture to thicken for 1 minute. Using your fingers, massage into face and throat. Rinse.

As always, follow the guidelines for making these healthy alternatives!

Gentle Microdermabrasion January 5, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — lorrisblog @ 8:36 am

This is an amazing way to get spa results at home. I have found the best time to use this recipe is just before getting into the shower, making it absolutely certain that you rinse well. If you use this on a regular basis, (no more than once a week) your skin will acheive almost the same results as a mechanical microdermabrasion, without any compromise to the outer skin surface. Again, make sure you rinse well! This is great for all skin types except sunburned, windburned, or irritated skin. Always follow the guidelines.

  • Baking soda benefits: Inexpensive skin polish. Aids in diminishing fine lines, age spots & wrinkles. Restores smoothness.
  • Helichrysum benefits: Reduce the appearance of scar tissue, very healing. Stimulates new cell formation.
  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon baking soda, 1 1/2 teaspoons purified water, 2 drops helichrysum essential oil.
  • Recipe: In a small glass bowl, combine the ingredients until a velvety paste forms. Scoop a small amount of mixture with fingertips and gently apply to your face using light, small circular motions. Use very little pressure allowing the baking soda to do the exfoliating for you. Keep applying until most of the mixture is gone and you have covered your entire face and neck with a thin coating. This should take you 10 minutes to complete thoroughly. Rinse very well or jump into the shower!
